Decibel and pollution levels see a fall this Diwali apparently, augers well for the future?

In what could be viewed as demi-win of sorts in terms of pollution control, this Diwali was much serene and beyond an atom of doubt way greener than its precursors. There is, however, no shying away from the fact that there is a long way to tread as far as the ultimate goal of a pure and green ambience is concerned.

Though official data is not out yet, still it seems a good stead to believe that pollution level did descend from the yesteryear years’ Diwali. However this would not be passed off unarguably. Till the recce is formed and disclosed, let’s enjoy the euphoric expression, let’s form a bubble, maybe only to see it burst ultimately and bring forth the brutal reality of regressing environmental faculties.

Well, let’s for once be true to ourselves. Who are we fooling but ourselves if we continue ignoring what has been overlooked long already? We have already conceded a few fatal blows, tipped the tipping point, overlapped the no point of return in our tryst with the destiny, even if we procrastinate into believing the gospel fact only till the time permits. Even if Diwali was greener, so as to say, it was not much of a difference to the depleted-beyond-repairs environment.

Certainly, no matter how much we euphemise the situation, there is a deep rooted fact that pollution is no trivial matter and is here to stay for at least as long as our stay. The little that we can do is to help control the damage that has already been inflicted upon, and anything more than appeasing doesn’t seem a viable option, neither economically nor technically; May be in the near future but an emphatic no to its present proposition.

In this eat-‘em-up-and-spit-‘em-out world, where everything is short-term and myopically viewed as a good-only-if-consumed commodity, we human beings, never tend to let go of our aboriginal thinking. Even if it consumes the entire race, ravages it off its existence from the face of the Earth-WHO CARES! That is the kind of attitude we façade. Time is no more a sand that it used to be, when they would caution “Watch out, for the time slips out of your hand”; In times now it has turned into a black-holish everglade hiding in plain sight with bated breath to pounce onto its victim as they fall prey to its hypocritically disguised demeanour.

We say we are doing enough, but the question is: What is the measure of “enough”? Who decides the calibrating scale in regards to it? The plain and blatant truth is that the loss caused by us is irreparable and lasting and our only chance is to realize the graveness of the matter and act assiduously in our routinely and not-so-routinely chores we do because it’s these little-and-large things that matter ultimately. So, are you game for the change that needs be?

GO GREEN- thematic inspiration for ZEST '10

Cometh the autumn, cometh the annual cultural fest of SRMS- ZEST '10. The season marked with a pleasant aura is a reason more to rejoice for the the students here at SRMS as it embarks on its magnificent trail of conducting the event year after year with a characteristic panache.
Now, what makes this year's extravaganza a league apart? What's its USP(Unique Selling Proposition)? Why an environment blog flashes its advert? Well, the answer to these questions though, may initially seem worldly unrelated but will ultimately make sense once you have got through with the post.
As we all are pretty much aware that our environment has been on a regressive trend of degradation, prompt actions are imperative to prevent an almost certain annihilation. The kafaekasque, if not barricaded, is sure to storm away any signs of life from the Earth. So the cognitive core of our college has got down to think and come up with one of our very own initiative. This year version of ZEST will proudly brandish the logo- GO GREEN. The motto behind the theme is: To be the change that we want to be; though the cliche may sound stale but rest assured our idea is fresh and we intend to indent a significant mark on the fore by implementing what we believe in.
In the words of Florence Scovel Shinn

“Every great work, every great accomplishment, has been brought into manifestation through holding to the vision, and often just before the big achievement comes apparent failure and discouragement”

So the greatest challenge for an endeavourer is to have the motivation enough to lead himself to his projected finishing point no matter how ragged the circumstances be. We dare say that we have the hubris to claim that we'd not revert from the vow that we have taken, but this is also a wake up call for our college mates to understand the responsibility as a flag bearer of something that could culminate to substantial proportions if it sparks the renaissance as we envisage it to.
All in all, it's a no loss contingency, the way I perceive it as a situation in which we conduct the fest and thereby end up spreading the word of awareness as a collateral benefit scheme. Actually it would be more apt to reframe the context as an all profit likelihood prospective in which we have no fear of dearth but only glut of satisfaction for our enterprise.
Lastly, though not leastly, it would be fairly acceptable to say that the initiative is worth commendations, but the verdict would be issued once the proceedings have been done and dusted with. In the end all that would matter be the upshot of the collective effort that has been put in by one and all. So what have you decided mates? Are you ready to give it your best shot? Are you ready to plunge into the deep and calibrate the depths? Are you, for once and all? Are you ready for the Zest '10?

Till Climate Do Us Apart

Clinging on to the peripheries of the climatic adversaries, it's high time when we act rather than ponder and react when retrace is not among the options; BP oil spill teaches us that if nothing. But nothing seems to be a lesson enough for the leaders at the world front.
There has been a significant surge in allocation of resources from both U.S.A. Government and U.K. Government since the tragic accident, which could have been avoided had it been for a meticulous plan of action in place. Learning is not in trend, however, these days. The situation at hand is nothing new though. History stands witness to such acts of damage control when nothing more is viable. Be it the infamous Chernobyl Holocaust or be it Jaipur oil depot fire or be it BP oil spill, the only common aspect being shared among is the short sightedness of the authorities in tackling issues beyond self perpetuation.
The real-today(today as is) is in drastic confrontation with the projected-today(today as they want us to see). The alarm has been slackened somehow or is it just that we don't want to open our eyes to the blatant reality? Either way we are the ultimate losers. To add to the verisimilitude of the situation, politicians themselves do not play any less blitzy a character, keeping us under the impression that something is being done when in actuality something has long been a euphemism for nothing.
The picture at large is that we boast of loftiest plans and go valley diving when it comes to implementing them; we patronize only to see ourselves humbled; the towering skyscraperish becomes sublimity paragon eventually; condescension gives way to sublimity conclusively. No wonder the trend would continue being the same and the path being treaded will be straight as a corkscrew.

Sinkhole Stinger

Wikipedia defines SINKHOLE, also known as a sink, shake hole, swallow hole, swallet, doline or cenote, as a natural depression or hole in the surface topography caused by karst processes - the chemical dissolution of carbonate rocks. A sinkhole might be formed suddenly or gradually.
Recent appearance of a sinkhole in Guatemala resurfaced the old question to the fore : Are sinkholes just another natural phenomena or a natural culmination of human activities? And the question was never more clearly answered than it is now; Human activities, not nature, was the likely cause of the gaping sinkhole that opened up in Guatemala streets on Sunday, in the views of a geologist says.
The hollowing of earth is being credited to a burst sewer pipe or storm drain, according to Sam Bonis, a geologist at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, who currently lives in Guatemala City. The cavity formation is supposedly triggered by the deluge from tropical storm Agatha. The fact that the city's foundation is composed of a material called pumice fill, deposited during past volcanic eruption, bears down heavily on the cenote formation.
It is contentious that whether or not to refer Guatemala sinkhole as a sinkhole because "Natural sinkholes generally form when heavy, water-saturated soil causes the roof of an underground limestone cavity to collapse, or when water widens a natural fracture in limestone bedrock but there is no limestone beneath the section of Guatemala City where the new sinkhole appeared, at least not at the depth at which the hole formed", Bonis said. Be or not a sinkhole, technically, Guatemala sinkhole-as-supposed is a potential threat.
And as a grave matter of fact, Guatemala sinkhole is not the lone sinkhole instance of self-sustained wrath, there are several others. Find the images of a few sinkholes together with Guatemala sinkhole at the bottom.

Week Around Wrap .....

#1. India pitches in with a climate change fund for S Asia. It comes after the nation furthered its apprehensions about sabotaging the progress in the process of going all green and hence declined to compromise its progress for the sake of cuttiing down carbon emissions during the all-starry-no-stuff Copenhagen Climate Summit. That makes it even soothing a news to ears. "I am happy to anounce setting up of an 'India Endowment for Climate Change in South Asia' to help member states in meeting urgent adaptation and capacity building needs," Manmohan Singh said at the 16th Saarc summit. PM also underlined on various projects already undertaken by the country, which included a national mission in sustaning the Himalayan ecosystem. Climatic innovation centres are also proposed to be set up. PM addressed the need of "regional cooperation" in sustainable resource management.

#2. Guess what, world's first hotel to earn carbon credits* is Indian. ITC Sonar, Kolkata now stands a unique identification ,which no other worldly hotel till date can possibly boast of, to this elite distinction. It has been issued 1996 carbon credits per annum for to years. United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) registered the project as a clean development mechanism.

*carbon credit- One carbon credit is equivalent to reduction of one tonne of carbon-di-oxide.

All that glitters is not IPL .....

Ya, i know it does not rhyme, neither it's a proper cliche and that's exactly my intention not to make it so . I mean it was all in bolds and flashes that IPL GOES GREEN only too recently . However so , the reality is , as always the case , way too real . Even as they coronate it to be the "BIG-BASH"  or the "CASH-STRAPPED" tournament ,the IPL suffers from the Audience-Parasitic syndrome.
First things first , let's start it with "Audience-Parasitic syndrome" : In today's jungle ,where it's already hard enough making a living , it is even harder , mind you , making a killing as is the case with IPL . The IPL is the the jungle king , as it were .It is affluent ,to say the least , and never misses a train to do what it takes to get even fatter . It's a hyena's world ,when it's your day..it's yours and you have the spoils , you rule the roost and all such kinda stuff ; but when it's not..move on,bear the adversaries . Chance never presents it's sight twice , so better cash it in when it is in it's delightful shimmer even if it means a few lies here and there , that could , of course , later  be attributed to a minor slip of tongue if at all others mind to reason out the non conformance to the policy . This is the modern day mantra and is fast becoming a law than just being a theory or a hypothesis . And IPL is no different than any other organization in following the law of seizing the opportunity when it comes and forgetting the bye products of it if not required . To put it into perspective : IPL , in it's third edition opening ceremony , made it public to support environment in it's present edition , when IPL commissioner Lalit Modi remarked , "The IPL is committed to greening its operation......blah..blah..whatever" however it's doing little in sync with the lofty promises it made to blure(blur+lure) the audience into believing the crap . "Audience-Parasitic syndrome" explains such behavior by initially establishing the connection between such organizations and it's audience and then by objectively defining the quintessence of audience for an organization i.e. these parasitic organizations feed on the money of who else but it's host : the audience . Believe it or not ,the syndrome is real and is here to stay . Beyond a trace of suspicion the IPLs will go on making shallow, devoid of substance promises so as to please its Oxygen Blowers..Life Infusers and defy each of it's promise unless until awareness takes over .
The issue at hand is the meddling with fireworks at IPL-3 opening ceremony, and during and after matches despite constant far-cries of the game's officials about the game being ditched of all polluting policies, and that there would be an effort to save environment. Perhaps it has got something to do with the myopic audience ,which is an ever appraiser to each boastful word of IPLs but is never a critique when the time comes to assess..assess not what is done but also what is not done . Now, what this laid back attitude of people has meant is more and more IPLs getting off easily even after committing such blunders but for the infamous and feeble minded audience.
Sometimes It is time you need to stop overlooking and recalibrate that angle of yours by starting afresh . Yes ,for the sake of  thinking segment of our brain start questioning..start confronting..start being more aware ,and  more importantly, start being a true and dedicated audience for your own good if for none else's .
Now, if this case of IPL is not a reason enough to prompt a change among audience, then i doubt any other case is. And it would not be inapt to say that the condition of audience is that of a hapless king who has the prowess but not the mind enough to exercise it's awesome power and thereby yield it's savory fruit .

Save Earth

Earth, a planet on which human race lives with thousands of other species considered to be inferior than them. Human is a very complex and cruel race. It’s such a race in which there jungles are filled with various human of different age, racing together, pushing, pulling and killing each other to earn something, something other than food and respect. Something that is very materialistic, something that should be irrelevant but still, they go racing behind it.
This something is irrelevant to me. What is relevant is Earth. The planet, the home, the Home Sweet Home, on which the human race is continuously spitting. Crushing beneath the soul of its shoes. Which is now dying.  And now some bogus human came forward to tell the other humans to help them in preventing the death of Earth now and postponing it for some 50-60 years so that they shall not be cursed by their following generation.
And I ask why?
Why now? Why save Earth for our next generation? What the use? The Earth is going to die. Even if we try than not now, maybe after 60-80 years but the fact is that the Earth is eventually going to die. Then why to save it? Let it die.
I perceive, why our next or the following generation be dragging the burdens and mistakes of ours. Let’s kill the Earth. Now! No following generation, no problem to be faced by them. It’s our mistake, let we finish what we started. The doom of the Earth.
So on this day I promise the human race that I will and will definitely play my part in the death of our Beloved home, ‘EARTH’.
I will pollute, at least in the quantity equivalent to 20 average polluters in our race. And will request all the readers to think about it and support me in this NOBLE cause.

"Valentine's Day" special

Well ,if u were wondering what Valentine day is got to do with Greennovate just settle your nerves and get ready to vet with what i have .It's about a romantic comedy flick "Valentine's Day" .
As a matter of fact Hollywood has ,through its several initiatives ,laid its lame claim to revitalize the greenovation concept ;The pic in focus ,however, breaks the ice on such stereotypes by standing apart from other movies in an attempt to diminute the carbon footprints .And that's how the things scheme out : The producers of the romantic celluloid cut out on as much as 21,000 plastic bottles and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 67 metric tons by opting for reusable water bottles .Solar power generators were also employed saving approx 19 metric tons of carbon dioxide .Other eco-mate stuffs included biodiesel fuel powered set lighting generators ,biodegradable plates, cups and utensils that were used while making the movie .Sources reveal that the stars were even asked to leave their limos behind .
Warner Bros. and other studios are now reportedly acting serious ,though it's a far fetched idea and Bollywood is still lagging behind ,yet the idea has been conceived and it's only a matter of time when others also follow the lead that has been very much set up by 'Valentine's Day'.....And that's all the spice we have for "Valentine's Day" special .

1411

1411 ,not just a number as it were ,a statistic ,and it clears the air on the present situation in terms of tiger conservation.Clearly there are 1411 of the cat species left .Elucidation is baseless as everyone knows deep within that we are lagging far behind as conservationists . And especially when social networking sites ,such as Fb ,are clogged up with things such as just mentioned ,it sure sends out an alarm .
Nearly all Tiger Conservation projects have been a far cry from their original purpose ,not to mention skewed projects are something that our Government tends to boast about .Though it feels good to state that some other organizations have taken it as an initiative to address the lucidly precarious issue .
